*' .1 THE WEST CRAVEN HIGHLIGHT Volume 3, No. 9 Vanceboro, N. C. - Thursaay, February 28, 1980 8 Pages 20 Cents New doctors sign lease by Connie Bryan A lease agreement has been reached between the Vanceboro Medical Center icecutive Board and the ictors of the East Carolina Internal Medi cine, P.A. of Pollocksville, according to Chairman George Dimick. The board was acting on a motion by William Haddock to secure such, an agreement that was unaminously approv ed by the Center’s Board of Directors at their meeting on February 18. The lease, which was signed last week, provides for the Jones County doctors to assume control over the finances, staffing, .and other operations of the center on a full-time basis by July 1, 1980. Commenting this week, Dimick revealed that the doctors at the Family Practice Center in New Bern, who have provided back-up services, since the origin of the center, had been informed of the new lease agreement. He stated that Dr. Phillip Mahaney, with the New Bern firm, had promised to contact him in 2 weeks with the group’s decision on whether or not to continue to provide that service until July 1 date. Dimick pointed out that although the New Bern doctors are under no legal obligation to serve as the support physicians during the interim period, he was hopeful that they would elect to do so. The 2:30 p.m. blaze which threatened the home of Don Morris, was quickly brought under control. Chief Ed Nobles explain ed that the fire apparently started from a open trash container near the open field beside the Morris home. Nobles went on to say that if the wind had been blowing in the opposite direction, the fire would have been in the woods before help could have arrived. Nobles cautioned homeowners and farmers in the area to keep an especially close watch on their fires when burning off fields in preparation for spring plowing.
